I plan to use leaves and some old straw as a mulch for the garden to keep it from drying out so much. Hopefully it will help lure worms to the garden and maybe I'll have some fish bait for when we go fishing. I guess time will tell. I'm also thinking of using old cardboard under the leaves and straw. I know worms like to gather under cardboard in a moist environment. I'm sure I can find some other materials around the house that can be used as mulch.

Starting a Vegetable Garden

I've decided to start a new vegetable garden this year. I have several plants already growing in small pots under the lights. Green peppers, okra, green beans. You name it. I'd like to be more self-sufficient this year. Grocery prices are hitting the roof around these parts. I'd like to think I can grow at least half of what we eat. That would save a lot of money for other important things. I did have to purchase a few gardening seed related odds and ends at first, but I'm sure most of it will pay for itself in no time. Possibly the first year.
